Recently I've been going to the cinemas more often. I usually prefer to rent DVDs or VCDs, but I think movies with fancy visual effects or scenes involving vast locations/large numbers of people (like LoTR or Star Wars) are worth watching on big screen. And there's a number of such movies released recently, with more coming up :D
Let's see.. what movies have I watched in the past few weeks?
Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon. I think the acting (especially Andy Lau's) and battle scenes are pretty good, but I believe it would've been better if it had followed sequences of events in the novel more closely, and limit the scope such that it covers shorter time span in more detail.
The Forbidden Kingdom. Quite entertaining, nice fight scenes. I like Jackie Chan's acting, as well as Jet Li's acting as the stern and serious monk. However, it seems to me that Jet Li (whom in my impression is best when playing roles of serious, quiet characters) had some difficulty playing the mischievous Sun Wukong.
Iron Man. Excellent casting and CGI. The plot could've been improved though. IMHO the main antagonists (the leader of the militant group as well as Obadiah Stane / Iron Monger) didn't seem significant enough. Perhaps the script should've included only one villain and give him more screen time, like in Spider-Man and Batman Begins movies.
Speed Racer. This is my favorite among the four. I particularly like the way it incorporates cutscenes in the background to fill in details of the characters' back stories (I find it effective and it doesn't take much time). I also feel that the overall style will evoke "love it/hate it" feeling though, but it's likely meant as a homage to the style of the original anime. I myself find the style very suitable for the movie.
As you can see from the linked reviews, my opinion and that of movie reviewers' can differ quite substantially, haha. Anyway, next on the list: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Batman: The Dark Knight, and The Incredible Hulk :D

Three Kingdoms -> ceritanya lumayan datar ya? Adegan perang sih ok..
The Forbidden Kingdom -> Jackie Chan dan Jet Li dalam satu film? Definitely no complaint deh.. Udah jarang lihat Jet Li main film silat klasik kaya gitu :D
Iron Man -> love the robot! Asistennya Tony Spark maksudnya .. duh kapan ya punya asisten kaya gitu :P
Speed Racer -> belum nonton sampai sekarang :'(
Prince Caspian -> kerenn... :D Kali ini aku nggak protes kalo cerita di film != di buku. Cerita di buku lebih sederhana, mungkin karena ditujukan untuk anak-anak. Film lebih menekankan ke peperangan antara Prince Caspian melawan Lord Mizar. Pertempuran di sungai keren banget :D It's definitely not a child movie. Cuma pas nonton, penonton anak-anak banyak juga euy :P Nggak rugi deh nonton film ini... *kompor mode on*
