I recently noticed that Hardware Zone Forums now has a section titled "SPF Crime Prevention Forum", created in cooperation with Singapore Police Force.
The description of the forum is as follows:
Brought to you by the Singapore Police Force and Hardware Zone, posts on this forum would inform you on the latest crime trends and the measures you and your families and friends can take to prevent falling victim.
Currently there's only one post there, but I think the idea is pretty neat. Considering HWZ Forums' popularity, it's a very effective way of alerting the (relatively tech-savvy) Singapore population of recent crime trends. Adding a forum and posting new information does not require a lot of money and time (compared to distributing / pasting notices), and this can also give some extra traffic to Hardware Zone as people who formerly have little reason to browse the site start to access it if only to check that forum. Granted, even in Singapore not everyone has Internet connection (and not everyone surf HWZ Forums!), so more conventional means of informing the population of new crime trends will still be needed, but if this idea takes off, it could really help crime prevention efforts.
