Singapore Philatelic Museum – Part III

From there, I went to see the gallery with "Stamps & Olympics" collection. It had unique items such as stamps from first years of modern Olympic Games (the first modern Olympic Games was held in Athens in 1896). The informational material mentioned that the exhibition includes a collection of rare Olympic stamps from the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Some of the Olympic-related postal objects

The last gallery I went to had Hans Christian Andersen-related postal objects on display. The museum showcased them, in addition to some information related to H.C. Andersen and his works, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of H.C. Andersen's birth. Part of the exhibition was a rare collection of philatelic items on loan from Post and Tele Museum in Denmark. There were also related artworks and pictures showing paper-cuttings, from the Odense City Museums (H.C. Andersen was born in Odense), on display.

Toys for small children were provided in the room as well - perhaps the museum staff occasionally held events geared towards younger students in the room. During my visit, there were groups of primary and secondary school students the museum as well, and there was what seemed to be a storytelling session in one of the rooms.

In conclusion, I find this museum a very good place to learn about philately, and had there been more exhibits, the place would have been a lot more interesting. As I understand it, this museum is the first and only one of its kind in the region, and this should make it much more interesting destination for visitors to Singapore who are interested in philately.
